A native of San Francisco, Darcy, oil and financial executive, took up ranching in Colorado in 1945, and married Ruth (Ruthies Run at Aspen was named for Ruth) Humphreys in 1947.

Following a term as state senator, he became President of the Aspen Skiing Corporation in 1958 and began its development into one of the world's largest ski complexes under single management.  At the time of his retirement in 1979 it included not only Aspen Mountain (Ajax), Buttermilk and Snowmass, but also the facilities of Breckenridge, Colorado, which were acquired in 1970.  During these years, Darcy gained tremendous respect both for his strong leadership within the ski industry and his blunt outspokenness on behalf of what he considered to be its vital interests as an orderly and organized industry throughout the United States and Canada.

His other contributions to skiing included chairmanship of the Colorado Passenger Tramway Safety Board, presidency of the National Ski Areas Association, and service to a variety of banks and utilities in the state of Colorado.
