Thor, born in Kongsberg, Norway, was a long-time Denver resident, who became a true promoter of Colorado skiing.

During the 1920's he was a constant winner of Colorado's ski jumping competitions.  However, in 1932, he established the Groswold Ski Company, which became recognized as the manufacturer of America's finest wood skis.

His skis were used on our countries' ski slopes by pros  and amateurs alike.  Many soldiers of the 10th Mountain Division, which trained at Camp Hale, were equipped with Groswold skis for combat operations. He also furnished skis for the 1952 United States Olympic Ski Team.

Thor was instrumental in establishment of the ski areas - Berthoud Pass and Winter Park - and also co-founder of Arapahoe Basin ski area.

Thor was one of the founders of the Ski Club Zipfelberger and an organizer of the Certified Ski Race Officials

Because of his efforts in promoting skiing and his willingness to give of his time as a competition judge, or in establishing local ski clubs, Thor's contribution to this winter sport is greatly acknowledged.
